NEW BERN, Craven County - A New Bern resident and U.S. Marine veteran has announced he'll run for the newly created N.C. House District 79 position.
Bryson K. Jones, a Democrat, announced his intentions Tuesday. District 79 encompasses all of Beaufort County and the western part of Craven County. The election will be Nov. 6, 2018.
"I'm thrilled to announce my candidacy for the N.C. House. I feel a duty and commitment to the people of Eastern North Carolina. This is my home, and these are my neighbors." Jones said in a press release. "My greatest pride in life is serving others for the greater good of our community."
Jones is originally from Montana but settled in Eastern North Carolina after serving 14 years honorably as a combat cameraman. He's been deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and many other countries.
He married his wife, Brittany, in 2010, and is the father of three children, Gracy, Maverick and Lilly. He and Brittany are expecting their fourth child in April 2018.
